Chemical Index 36. (24 Bottles (16-oz) Per Case:
Bondol's Aids-O-Dyne Arterial chemical is specially formulated for infectious diseases (AIDS & Hepatitis). This chemical has a high index to promote thorough preservation and additional disinfectant agents to help make the body sterile. This chemical is especially effective in neutralizing medicines (chemotherapy, morphine) and fluids that are given to hospital patients to fight these diseases. As most embalmers are aware, these medicines can sometimes reduce the effectiveness of embalming fluids. All embalming fluids are anti-germercidal but Bondol has formulated this chemical with extra anti-infection agents for peace of mind for the embalmer. There is no medical necessity for closed caskets, or cremations of the remains of an HIV infected person.
Caution should be exercised in handling secretions or excretions, particularly blood and body fluids of all deceased persons; but especially infectious cases. Because bodies can remain contagious even after death following is a Modus Operandi example for handling infectious and other cases:
- Removal personnel should be equiped with disposable aprons, disposable rubber gloves, disposable pouch or sheets, trash bags and topical disinfectants.
- The deceased should be sprayed with a solution that will preclude particles on the body from becoming airborne. In the absence of a commercially prepared disinfectant a 1.10 dilution of 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (household bleach) with water is effective. Please be aware that the combination of sodium hypoclorite and formaldehyde may create a carcinogenic compound. To minimize this, surfaces should be rinsed with water before the hypochlorite solution is utilized. Examine yourself for broken skin and use suitable garments (rubber gloves, protective eyeware, gowns, aprons and shoe coverings).
- Determine strength of solution needed for the particular case at hand. The initial injection should be made against a closed vein to promote contact of the formaldehyde solution with the virus particles in the blood before drainage is started. While embalming use multiple injections points if necessary. If "skin slip" exists, use a mildly warm injection solution.
- Blood spills should be cleaned up promptly with the same disinfecting solution (1:10 dilution to 5.25% sodium hypochlorite - bleach) previously discussed. Instruments should be soaked overnight in glutaraldehyde. Actions should be taken to minimize the creation of droplets and aerosols.
- Disposable syringes and needles are preferred for hypodermic tissue building. Trocars should receive special attention in disinfection. Rags and towels used during preparation should be incinerated or washed in hot (132°F) soapy water and bleach.
- Dispose of aspirated material after it has been mixed with a concentrated solution of Aids-0-Dyne or any standard preservative. Use "large" volume of fluids and if necessary, make a second injection. Upon completion of the embalming and the removal of the garb, all personnel should thoroughly wash their hands with a good, liquid antiseptic soap before leaving the embalming room.
